Keavy
There's no easy way to say this, Keavy lost her life in a plane accident in July. She will be missed. Keavy was a very special person, anyone that knew her had to love her. She was so much fun to be around. I really do thank George and Cindy for bringing her to Bobworld.
One thing for sure, Keavy got as much living done as she could in twenty-five years.

BACK TO THE OLD WEST
We took the grandchildren back in time to the old west.Cowboys, Indians, guns, and saloon girls.I loved it. Kids had fun too.
Lots of gun fights.
Indians were friendly.
Real nice feathers.
Barber shop was busy giving shaves. This cowboy looks a little nervous.
But he was happy with the results.
We took the stage coach.
We got robbed on the stage coach - took our gold.
We got robbed on the train.
We panned for more gold. We went to a small church that had a young preacher.
We fed the goats.
We headed home.

The Hatch
I kept the temperature in the incubator a 1/2 degree higher with these eggs.It was a test to see if I would get a better hatch. Well Tuesday we moved the eggs to the hatchery.
Well Judy and Cindy did. George and I supervised.I found the thermometer was reading one degree lower and that's on the edge of cooking them. I was using this thermometer.
The eggs hatched a day early. I got a 70% hatch - I was hoping for 80%.
From the hatchery they go to the broader house.
They stay in broader house for four weeks.
.Then I put them out in the field in three different spots in recall pens.
After a few days I started releasing half of them. Then after a week I let them loose. Now when I take the dogs for a walk we find birds.
GRANARY UP DATE
The old granary's new location has been picked. Some of the pillers completed.
The granary after it was jacked off the trailer.
Allen is finishing up the pillers here. I cut three oaks down. Two had been struck my lightning and the other one's time was just up.
Mark brought the saw-mill over and we cut all the framing lumber.
Dad's putting a log on the mill here.
Mark is the sawyer, Skip and I were the log rollers.
Here's the team in the end of the day photo - all fingers attached.
This mill uses a big band blade.
It has a Honda engine.
The lumber now has to dry for a while before we start framing.

QUAIL NEST
Walking with the dogs I saw Dakota stop and check something out.It turned out to be a quail nest.Every egg had hatched out.
I put 1000 eggs the the incubator on June 8th.
My plan is to release them when they are 5 weeks old. If some of them join up with the brood of wild one that would help the new ones out.The deer have been using the mineral's I put out.
These guys are regulars.
Nate and I went fishing.
Nate was catching them as fast as I could take them off the hook.
We went to North Bowers Beach for crab cakes and soft shell sandwiches.
Mark, Bonnie and Abby went with us.
Nate had to check out this crane - he gets that from his great grandpa.

HEARD THE FIRST QUAIL CALLING
Saturday morning I finally heard "bob-white bob-white". I was close to the center of the farm and heard four birds calling. I was getting worried, it was April 20th last year when they started calling. The other exciting news is I got the old grainy moved to Bobworld.
You can see it's not going to take much work to get it back in shape.
I got it in position. Will be cutting some trees so Mark can saw the lumber needed. I got a nice big turkey last Wednesday. Just in time for Fridays BBQ.
I cooked him on the grill, there wasn't any shot in the meat. One little bullet just hit him behind the head.
This week the Indigo bush down the back lane was in bloom.
Janey has a nice point on a rabbit here.
All the little geese are still alive - I thought for sure some of them would be dinner for a fox or hawk.
I got most of my food plots planted.
My new planter works real nice.
The beans and corn came up real nice.
The sunflowers are almost big enough to cultivate. The new clover plot is really doing well. I mowed it for the second time this week.
If we get enough rain it will be nice this fall.
The deer have been feeding on the clover most evenings.
Janey came running out of the woods yesterday morning with a doe chasing her. Bill and I couldn't believe it. Janey was out of breath & scared for her life! The doe must have had a fawn close by.
