I was hunting from the stand on the edge with the flood pond for maybe 15 mins.when my phone rings.
I got one [what did you get?] it's a nice one [how big?] it's a quality buck, come help me.
I had walked back to the stand and Ed had the Kia so he came and got me. We stopped at the house to get my knife, flash light and dogs of course. Traded the Kia for the Toyota pickup and the adventure started. The problem with early bow season is it hot & you gotta get the deer in the cooler. The problem of evening hunting is it gets dark. Ed said the deer came running by his stand and slowed to a walk just long enough to give him a chance to make his shot. The arrow passed right through the heart and out the shoulder. The deer ran about a 100 yard and dropped . Its too bad the deer ran away from the path. His stand is back in the woods 1/8 mile and off a path about 100 yards. We would have to drag it about 200 yards to the truck. I held the light and Ed gutted the deer. That part probably turns people off but it's part of hunting. It was raining lightly and real dark by the time we started dragging it out.
We had to drag it over more fallen tree then we remembered walking over coming in.
So Ed stayed with the deer and I walked up ahead to find a clear path to the truck. When I came to the stream that should have been behind me I realised I was LOST IN THE WOODS AGAIN. I needed my compass or GPS but didn't think to grap them. Since the stream runs east to west and we were on the north side we knew the water flowed west and that got us going toward the truck again. When I found the path the truck was on, I put my light in a tree there. Went back to Ed and we headed for the light. Found the truck up the path aways. Got to truck, reached in my pocket for my camera and found I lost it some where along the drag. Put deer in truck and headed for the butcher.
The deer weighted 154, 9 points, looked to be 2 1/2yrs.old, really nice rack. In two years he would have been a monster.
Went back this morning - found my camera.

ONE MISS
The Jersey hunters put on their war paint and the first arrow has flown.
On my ride around Bobworld Friday, I saw the first NJ pick up. It was Randy's, parked back where the hay bales were. I hunted in the stand at the end of the hedgerow behind the cabin that evening.
I wasn't in the stand long before a deer stared snorting and I could hear it moving but I couldn't see it. I stayed till dark, then went to check on how randy made out but he had all ready left. I heard for Ed that Randy saw doe's but didn't get a shot.Saturday I spent the morning clearing shooting lanes around all the deer stands. Ed,Milton, Mike and Michael were down for their first hunt Saturday.
Here's Michael - ready to go to his stand. He is using a compound bow. The story I got was he wasn't in the stand long when some doe's came by, he took a fifteen yard shot and shot low. Most everybody saw deer but no blood was drawn.

FIRST HUNT: THE DEER WIN
Got in the deer stand in the corner behind brother Brian's house at 6:30 PM. I could hear quail in the cover on the edge but didn't see any of them. Then I heard some calling in the field - it sounded like a nice size group.
Behind me I started hearing a stomping noise. I turned around to see a nice size doe. It was only 10 yards away, looking at me. When I went for my camera she moved to cover. I stood up facing the woods with cross bow in hand for awhile.
She stayed in the cover and snorted at me - I knew she was aware of me. I sat back down and watched the field till dark and saw nothing else.

BACK FROM CRUISE
Bob left BOBWORLD and got on the boat in Baltimore with Judy.Went to Bermuda and back.We had lots of fun, food and sight seeing. We had dinner with this group most every evening. We are at Horse Shoe Bay Beach..This lamb was as good as deer. When I got home I mowed some paths through the habitat. I went flying and checked them out from the air. While mowing, I jumped up 2 fawns, 4 quail and one rabbit.
The grandchildren came over and I shot a dove for them. Max said don't kill animals but I told him I needed to eat. Xander and Nathan wanted to hold it.I got 6 more Saturday to make enough for a meal. Checked the trail cams and finally got a deer at Milton's feeder. Got this guy at the wetlands. This young red tail hawk let me get this picture. We had a little rain Sunday so I got a few small food plots planted. The combines motor had a little problem while picking the corn. Looked like #1 connecting rod might have broken and went through the block.
A new engine was installed right in the field.

HUNTING SEASON STARTS
Dove season starts in MD today. Bow season for deer starts in DE today.
I will try and get some doves today. The dogs will be happy to see the 20 gauge out and birds falling. I see these two young bucks a lot. If they stay on my farm they should be safe. They're only going to be a year and a half this season. They're the only bucks that have been out in the day time. They have to get through this deer season and wise up. We went to Summerfest in Denton and met Bob Ehrlich, he's running to be Gov. again.
He's holding Abby and wearing my hat. Friday evening George and Cindy came over to check out my new deer stand and the wildlife. We took a nice jitney ride. There were a lot of wood ducks on the wetlands. George came up with calling my farm "Bob's World".
I like it and think I'll put up a sign "WELCOME TO BOB'S WORLD".Janey always rides the hood. Christian got his first jitney ride through BOB'S WORLD and loved it. Christian is from PA and comes to Ridgely Airport to hang glide. I cooked wood duck, deer burgers and wild rice. Christian brought the ice cream. Cindy and Judy enjoy having a meal cooked for them. Dakota and George had a beer.Janey went for the ice cream.Saturday we got up early and went to the RESTORING HONOR RALLY IN DC. Steve and Sue went with us. Note: DC is not part of BOB'S WORLD.
Just got back from lunch and got my first dove of the year. I now have something for dinner - it will take a lot of rice to make a meal. The dogs were very happy.Janey made the retrieve.
I gave it a throw so Dakota could retrieve it too.The corn is getting close to being ready - that should bring in a lot more doves.
