DUCK BLIND

Had 2+ inces of rain to make food plots grow nice.
I got the roof and sides on the duck-deer blind.DSCN0014
Hunters Ed and Milt came down and put up stands and a feeder Saturday. They saw some does. I got this picture near plot #4. SUNP0006
Monday morning on my ride I saw the buck with the extra white and a nice big turkey in the lima beans. Then in the evening there were 4 does and a buck in the clover.
Does anybody know what kind of dog this fine looking animal is? 102_0006

BIG EARS

I checked two cams on my usual ride around this morning. Only one picture.SUNP0002
I think the deer are wise to my cam. I saw 6 deer last evening when I was mowing my paths, they were close to the cam at plot 2 but no pictures.

4'' RAIN

Four inches of rain kept me out of the woods and fields on Saturday so I cleaned up the cabin and it's ready for bow season. Sunday I started on a duck-deer blind at the flood pond. I'm making it 8x10. I put it in the edge of the woods and should be able to hide it from the crafty critters. There are lots of oak trees right behind it. I'll clear the low stuff and have a nice spot to watch deer feed on the acorns. The blind should be a nice place to take the grand kids. DSCN0011
There have been lots of deer out in the mornings and evenings. The ducks have been flying too.
These critters got caught at Eds feeder - plot 5(note: camera date is wrong). SUNP0015 SUNP0014
I'm sure that coon hound lives at the end of the road.

MUSHROOM FOR SUPPER?

I think this is an oyster mushroom (non poisonous). It felt nice and soft and looked tender.I have wood duck in the freezer that will go perfect with it.DSCN0004
Quite often I see the 6 point bucks on the ride around but not the big guys.
This bird has been along my ride for a couple years now. He drives my dogs nuts when he's in the road. RSCN0006
This weekend I'm going to walk through the fields with best brood cover and try to find some broods of quail. I haven't seen any yet this summer. Want to start building my duck blinds too.

FROM THE AIR

DSCN0007
Went flying Sunday and took this picture so the hunters can see the lay out of the woods. My house would be at the top of the picture in small piece of woods.
I took the picture around 8 in the morning.I went back up that evening and saw lots of deer.On the side where the old house is (near plot#6) there were 18.Twelve of them were bucks - 4 very nice ones. Then across the field stood 12 more and 8 of them were bucks - three real nice.
Monday evening on our walk we walked right up on a six pointer in plot #2.
Just before we got to plot #2 we stopped and checked out the Bi-Color Lespediza we planted last March. We put in 1000 seedlings in two differnt plots.
It really took off at this plot, already 5 feet tall and it's blooming.DSCN0009DSCN0008
When we got back home, I let Janey out and she went over to ditch bank and pointed the covey of quail that have been feeding there. Notice she has her back leg up instead of the front (does this means the quail could be behind her??!!).

Nice rain

Nice rain:1". I checked the trail cams this morning at plots #1 & 2. Had only one visitor at #1 SUNP0012
On the ride around this morning, the only deer I saw were down the dirt road along the woods. There was a buck and 3 does. The buck looked like an 8 pointer. There were about 30 Canada geese out close to the road.
I saw twenty+ quail at my house along the ditch in the back yard and some were on top of the picnic table. They were released about three weeks ago. I spread some feed there for them.
For supper I did the sweet corn in the microwave thing. Takes only 8 min. in a plastic bag. Put in a little water, olive oil and oldbay. Must be good cause wife will eat it.The quail came feeding back along the ditch while we ate.DSCN0014

After supper I picked up my bother B for the ride around the farm. Some how though I got off the regular path and got stuck.DSCN0016
Had to walk back and get the tractor. After that we checked the deer cams at plot #2.doe and her fawn.
I adjusted the cam. Hope they come back. Next we checked ED's cam at plot #5-
had a problem with the cam at last check. I found the card wasn't working.
Changed card and moved on.
Saw lots of deer along both edges of the woods and this Goat in the road. DSCN0024
He acted like he wanted to get in the back with the dogs.

Here is the map showing the different food plots. I have numbers on the plots so you will know which ones I'm referring to.
Hunter Ed has a camera set up at plot #6. I checked the cameras last evening and these pictures were on it.SUNP0008 SUNP0005
Now Ed has to keep his cool and let this deer go for at least another year.
That's me and two of my grandchildern disking the plot.DSCN0017
Last evening I gave Janey her first ride on the jitney since her operation. Drove slowly but she still made me nervous since she kept getting up on the hood.
This morning on the ride around the farm I noticed how good the partridge pea looked.
The pods look full. Quail love the small seeds that drop out when the pods open.
DSCN0020
The other day the ducks were hiding in the grass. I almost ran over them. I was able to get my camera out and get this picture of some of them before they got out too far in the water.DSCN0003
I looked down after I took the picture and saw this guy still hiding.DSCN0001

Had 1" of rain last night and this morning. I had problems with the blog yesterday but lori got it fixed.
I have about twenty mallards on the wetland that aren't flying yet but should do so soon.
I saw the 5 little wood ducks but not the older ones - they may be flying now.
I see male quail on my ride around the farm most days but no hen birds. I hope they're sitting on eggs or hiding with their broods.
I see ten or more deer most days. Today I tried to get a picture of a doe with her fawn but they moved into the woods.
The clover field is the hot spot for seeing deer right now.
I was able to sneak up on this sun flower and got a close picture!Janey & Dakota were watching me sneak up on sun flower.
